André Felix National Park By Plane: One Week

André-Félix National Park (in French: Parc National André-Félix) is a national park in the north of the Central African Republic which was created after the country’s independence in 1960. It is located next to the border with Sudan and covers around 1.700 km2. On the east we find the Radom National Park in South-Sudan. We can find savanna with Sudanese forests which consist of bambousa, isoberlinia and terminalia.

Some of the wildlife in André Felix are ostrich, buffalo, crocodile, elephant, giraffe, hippo, lion, leopard, hogs, porcupines and others.

The André Felix National Park is between 420 and 1,130 meters above sea level, in the north and center of the Bongo massif, in the extreme southeast of the Chad basin. Its surface is covered by 51% of the forests and 49% of the vegetation type of the forest savanna of northern Congo.

Access to and conservation of the area becomes difficult due to intense poaching. There is hardly any information available for the park itself. From the Birao area, 228 species of birds are known, of which approximately 180 are breeding birds. On the outskirts of the park is the only population of antelope in Central Africa. Other species include Tragelaphus strepsiceros, Falco alopex, Merops bulocki, Lybius rolleti, Corvinella corvina, Piapia, Eremomela pusilla, Lamprotornis purpureus, Plocepasser superciliosus, Pytilia phoenicoptera, Estrilda troglodytes, and Emberiza affinis.

Our tour will commence at Bangui, from where we’ll take a chartered plane to either Ouanda or Ouandja (depending on the current conditions). We will go to the forest by 4×4 and will spend the next 5 days camping deep in the forest, eating simple local meals.

Note that you will need one buffer day in Bangui before this tour starts in case your flight is delayed and at least one buffer day after the trip in case of delays. We are NOT responsible in case of flight delays due to bad planning from your side. This expedition is as rough as it gets and there won’t be any luxuries such as electricity or running water. You will be far away from civilization and will have to deal with mud, mosquitoes and other annoyances. Please, know that wildlife is unpredictable and understand the risks of these kind of tours.
