The Central African Republic Experience

Welcome to a country which bears the most factual name possible, to the detriment of a certain poetry: the Central African Republic. But to reduce this territory with many faces, as large as France and Belgium put together, to its sole geographical location, would be a shame. Because it is here, in the heart of the old continent, in the depths of humid forests or on the edges of innumerable rivers, that it all began. Land of legends, the Central African Republic is tailor-made for adventurers, exciting the pioneer who lies dormant in every traveler.

Huge waterfalls water an exuberant and impenetrable vegetation composed of thousands of species, where wild animals tread a soil rich in gold and diamonds. Preserved from mass tourism, far from the formatted safaris practiced in neighboring countries, Bêafrîka (Sango, the national language) exerts a magnetic attraction on all ecotourism enthusiasts in search of authenticity. Here, the Ba’aka take you net hunting in the dense forests of Lobaye, on the Congolese border, while the scientists train you in tracking the “silverbacks”, mythical gorillas that inhabit the immense Dzanga-Sangha nature reserve, bordering Cameroon and Congo. Cradle of origins, the Central African Republic allows us to trace history in the footsteps of our ancestors, traces of which the most visible are cave paintings and megaliths. A country with a proud people steeped in traditions, whose songs, dances and tales passed down from generation to generation are heard in the back decor of timeless villages. So many living memories of a constituent oral heritage of the country.

The country suffers, on the outside, from a deplorable image, largely truncated. It is true that security is not guaranteed throughout the territory and that tourist infrastructure is sorely lacking. However, against the grain of preconceived ideas and fears justified by politico-military events, the Central African Republic remains partly accessible to adventurers who take the trouble to do so. The traveler will find there an intact, original and wild environment, where he will be able to taste the flavor of Africa, rich in a great human and natural diversity. Welcome to the Central African Republic!
